Today is the ABSOLUTELY LAST DAY to make your pledge for [community profile] getyourwordsout 2015. We will not accept any pledges made after January 20—no excuses, exceptions, or cash back with a valid receipt. You MUST PLEDGE and MUST REQUEST MEMBERSHIP to be a member. If you have done only one or have deleted your comment, you are NOT a member for 2015. (If you are listed on the user profile, you have done both and are good to go.)

PLEDGE! PLEDGE! PLEDGE!

That's the most important thing to do to make sure you're a member of GYWO for 2015.

Have you pledged?
Light, 75K words
Modest, 150K words
Basic, 200K words
Moderate, 250K words
Difficult, 300K words
Insane, 350K words
Ludicrous, 500K words

After today you cannot make ANY further changes to your pledge, so it's also the last day for second guessing.

Dreamwidth Users If you want to be a member of the community and have already pledged, please make sure your membership request has been approved or that you have accepted a member invitation sent by a moderator. You are a member of the DW community if your name appears in the Members list and only the Members list. Your name MUST appear in the Members list if you wish to have access to the Dreamwidth community.

If your name is not in that list, please check to see if you have an invitation to accept or request membership.

Livejournal Users If you also want to have access to the Livejournal community and do not, please check to see if you have an invitation to accept or request membership. You are already a member of the LJ community if your name appears in this list.

When membership closes end of day on Jan 20, that includes allowing people to request membership, so please act quickly to make sure you have access to the community/communities!

If you have not pledged, you must pledge before requesting membership.

GYWO is BACK for 2015! We’re starting our 7th year-long writing challenge with seven pledges to help you challenge yourself, achieve your writing goals, and build a writing life. Keep in mind that even our smallest word count goals require a serious commitment throughout the year. Before choosing your pledge, please take note of the few requirements we have of our members, and carefully consider which of the seven pledges you'd like to choose.

Membership Requirements & Information )

Pledging

Members who pledge for 2015 are permitted to use any number of writing projects to add to their word count over the year. Projects may include (among other things) novels, fanfics, poems, songs, and essays. You can find a guideline of what kinds of projects we count at our website.

When choosing your pledge goal, keep in mind your personal writing habits and what you find most motivating. Will hitting your goal early help propel you to keep writing through the year? Do you need a major challenge to keep you on pace? Have you surpassed smaller goals in previous years and need more of a challenge? Make sure the pledge you make is one that will motivate you.

To make your pledge there are two steps to complete: Pledge & Request.

Step 1: Pledge Follow the link for your pledge to the appropriate post and leave a comment using the journal you intend to have join the community.

  • 75K words, the Light level, approximately 6.25K words/month, 206 words/day (reserved for members with chronic or recurrent conditions)
  • 150K words, the Modest level, approximately 12.5K words/month, 411 words/day
  • 200K words, the Basic level, approximately 16.6K words/month, 548 words/day
  • 250K words, the Moderate level, approximately 20.8K words/month, 685 words/day
  • 300K words, the Difficult level, approximately 25.0K words/month, 822 words/day
  • 350K words, the Insane level, approximately 29.1K words/month, 959 words/day
  • 500K words, the Ludicrous level, approximately 41.6K words/month, 1,370 words/day

Reminders: Sign up with only ONE account.
You may sign up using Livejournal, Dreamwidth, or OpenID.
You may use a fic/writing journal instead of your personal one.
Include your username on the other platforms requested to have access everywhere.
If you have previously participated under a different username (or on Livejournal, if you are signing up on Dreamwidth), please let us know so we can track our repeat members.

Step 2: Request Once you have made your pledge, please request to join the community. We’ll approve memberships on December 31st/January 1st (as we still have the 2014 members scrambling to hit their goals!), but we'll hold you in the queue.

Some members may need to take one more step:
Step 3: Verify Before approving new membership requests we want to make sure your journal is not a bot or a troll—so if your journal is f-locked with little information in your userinfo, you may want to send us a PM to tell us about your writing goals (which confirms you are a human).

If you’re concerned we didn’t receive your pledge: We will be updating the 2015 member list in the profile as new members are verified. Please give us at least 24 hours from submitting your pledge before inquiring about your status. (Over the Christmas holiday we will not be vetting pledges, so please check back on Dec 27th.)

IMPORTANT: Anyone requesting to join the community who has not made a pledge will not be added. To ensure you are not left out, make your pledge first, then request to join.

You have until January 20, 2015 to make your pledge.
After that time you will NOT be able to change your pledge
or join the challenge, so think carefully before committing.

For Get Your Words Out 2015, [personal profile] theemdash and [personal profile] dark_roast would like to add a third (and possibly 4th) full-time moderator to help better distribute the moderator responsibilities. We are specifically looking for people who would be willing to assist with:
  • making scheduled posts from the moderator account
  • starting discussions
  • taking responsibility for Word War volunteers
  • drafting the Best Of Twitter & Tumblr posts*
  • assisting with writing prompts for Twitter*
  • assisting with ongoing challenges to be determined
  • *No Twitter or Tumblr account is needed; you’ll be provided login information to the gywo accounts as necessary.

We have a handful of requirements for moderators:
  • completed at least one year with [community profile] getyourwordsout OR have at least 1 year experience moderating a writing community
  • never removed from [community profile] getyourwordsout for missed check-ins
  • passion for helping others get their words out
  • available to commit time for the whole year
  • account for GoogleDrive

We would prefer to have a moderator who has both Livejournal and Dreamwidth accounts, but it is not required so long as you remember to crosspost from the gywomod account. Also we want to emphasize, you do NOT have to be a previous member of GYWO if you have modding experience, but it is preferred.

Leave a comment or PM [personal profile] theemdash if you are interested. Please tell us if you have any modding experience, what you’d be excited about doing, what time conflicts you have (e.g., 9-5 work week), your email address with GoogleDrive access, and any questions you have for us.

Comments are screened. Any comment with personal information will remain screened.

GYWO 2013 is our last planned year of GYWO. We may continue on after 2013 (to be decided at a later date), but for now, consider this your final chance to meet your writing goals with GYWO. Since it’s the last planned year, we’re hoping you’ll really challenge yourself in your writing goals, which is why this year we will be offering six pledges to increase the difficulty for some of our overachievers.

Keep in mind that even our smallest word count goals require a serious commitment throughout the year. Before choosing your pledge, please take note of the few requirements we have of our members, and carefully consider which of the six pledges you'd like to choose.

Membership for 2012 is closed now. This comm will be used as a "back-up" for mod posts in case we run into more DDoS attacks throughout the year.

If you are a member of GYWO in 2012, you are encouraged to join this comm here on Dreamwidth so you can see the posts we make here. You may join either with a Dreamwidth account, or using OpenID with your Livejournal account.

If you are using a Dreamwidth account that has a different username than your LJ one, please leave a comment here so we can match you up and make sure you're a member here, too!

In 2012 we are offering five pledges so that we can provide varying levels of difficulty for members. That doesn't mean that any of these challenges are easy, though! Even our smallest word count goals require a serious commitment throughout the year. Before choosing your pledge, please take note of the few requirements we have of our members, and carefully consider which of the five pledges you'd like to choose. Once the year starts, you will be locked into the pledge and we will not permit changing (either to increase or decrease the goal).
